Sagamore is an historic "great camp" in Raquette Lake, NY in the central Adirondacks. Dating from the 1890's, Great Camps were the extensive, forested mountain estates of the Gilded Age wealthy. The camps offered the same high standard of elaborate out-of-town lifestyle to the "captains of industry" that they enjoyed at their seaside retreats in Newport, RI. Sagamore boasted hot and cold running water, indoor plumbing, hydroelectric power, a bowling alley and entourages of British servants. The Sagamore Great Camp
Sagamore belonged to Alfred G. Vanderbilt. His neighbors at Raquette Lake were J.P. Morgan and Andrew Carnegie.

Today, Sagamore is one of only a few great camps operating as non-profit organizations, and the only one open to the public for tours and educational programs for resident guests. There are two ways for individuals to enjoy Sagamore. The first is to take a two-hour guided tour of our 27 buildings. The second is to register for an educational program and actually stay in our historic buildings for two-to five-nights.

Sagamore is open from May 15 to October 15. Groups can book conferences, retreats, or events at Sagamore when our schedule permits.
