Rules of Engagement 4th Annual CIVIL WAR ENRICHMENT WEEKEND

RULES AND REGULATIONS: Welcome to Tupper Lake, NY, crossroads of the majestic Adirondack Mountains. We appreciate your coming to help us with this event. In order for all to have an enjoyable and safe weekend, we ask that you please abide by the following:
PARTICIPATION
1. All company commanders are required to attend all officer’s meetings, this includes companies commanded by NCO’s. Unit commanders will be held accountable for the actions of the men and women in their unit, military or civilian in nature.
2. No participant under the age of 16 will be allowed to carry or fire any firearm or serve on any cannon crew. No participant under the age of 12 will be allowed on the field during battles. Participants 12-15 years of age must be a functional musician certified and assigned by the chief of music, or unit commander, to be on the field. A parent or guardian must accompany any participant under the age of 18.
3. The standard safety rules of the camp and field as approved by the CWRLC are in effect.
UNIFORMS
1. All officers shall be in proper relation to the number of men they command.
2. Officers and NCO’s should be kept to a minimum in each unit. Officers must be correctly attired and equipped with a sward and sidearm.
3. Uniforms and equipment must represent the Civil War time period. All participants are required to portray an 1864 appearance, for this event. The use of modern blue jeans, modern work boots, pants, shirts & eyewear will not be permitted. Uniforms should be made of woolen materials. Troops will be inspected. No synthetics! Sack coats, shell jackets, or frock coats will be considered proper attire.
BATTLES
1. Infantry participants should allow 200 rounds of ammunition for this event. Any participant running out of ammunition will be expected to become a casualty.
2. Close fighting, if done, shall be rehearsed prior to the battle. This will be done only by those participants given permission by the commanding officers, and only if it pertains to the battle scenario. Except when simulating a hit, all participants are expected to remain with their units, unless given permission by their commanding officer. NO solo charges will be tolerated.
3. The use of National Battle flags during the battle will be at the discretion of the overall commanders.
4. All hand-to-hand combat is prohibited.
WEAPONS
1. No live ammunition will be allowed on event property. Anyone found with live ammunition on school property will be subject to arrest. Weapons may not be discharged within camp boundaries unless they have permissions and direct supervision of the safety, ordnance, or commanding officer or his designee. Discharging of weapons will take place during battle reenactments only. Firing of a piece to insure that it is safe will be permitted at the discretion of the safety, ordnance, commanding officers or their designees.
2. All firearm cartridges will consist of no more than 60 grains of powder. No non-period weaponry will be allowed.
3. All weapons must pass the weapons inspection prior to the start of any battle or similar engagement. Any weapon failing weapon inspection will not be allowed on the field until the weapon has been repaired and cleared by a safety, ordnance, commanding officer or his designee.
4. No penny wrappers, staples, wads, or tape will be used or allowed in the making of cartridges. Bayonets, ramrods, & knives will remain sheathed and/or secured unless ordered to un-secure them. No bowie knives will be allowed on the field.
5. Revolvers or pistols will be carried by officers and senior NCO’s only. All revolvers/pistols will be subject to required inspection. No shotguns.
6. All late arrivals must have their weapons cleared by authorized personnel, as stated above in #3
7. Direct, aimed fire shall not take place inside of 40 yards distance. In no case, should firing take place inside of 25 yards.
8. No bulk powder (black) is permitted.
9. Any edged weapons must have dulled edges and blunted points. Throwing of tomahawks, axes, or knives is not permitted. All edged weapons will remain sheathed when no in use.
GENERAL RULES
1. No one except military participants will be allowed on the battlefield during battles.
2. All registration applications are subject to approval of the 55th VA. Co. D and/or event coordinator. All reenactors must register upon arrival. Senior officer’s ranks need to be included on the registration forms, along with a complete listing of participants for each unit. Any unit that does not list the participating members on the registration form will not be considered as registered.
3. No modern cameras or electronic equipment will be carried on or used on the battlefield during reenactments.
4. The standard rules of camp & field are in effect. They are to be respected and obeyed. Anyone acting in an unsafe manner will be asked to leave immediately. There will be no refund for participants asked to leave.
5. Use of obscene language or by gesture is expressly forbidden at this event. Let’s remember this is a school. As re-enactors we have a duty to educated in a proper manner.
I hope you enjoy this event, as much time and planning has gone into it for your benefit, and the publics benefit. Thank you for abiding by these rules and regulations. Our conduct will provide good role models for the children and future re-enactors.
I the undersigned, agree to abide by these rules and regulations, use good conduct and common sense, during this event. I further agree to withhold from any liability, L.P. Quinn elementary school, the Tupper Lake school system, owners of private of adjoining property which I or my family may be permitted to use throughout this event. I understand that I am responsible for any minors or family members who have accompanied me to this event and are in my care. I understand that myself, and all who are in my care are reenacting at their own risk. I have completely read and understand this document.
